Understanding Eve: Looking at the Harm & Why It Didn't Have to Be That Way

For centuries, the story of Eve has been used to say something about women: that they are more easily deceived, less trustworthy, or even responsible for humanity’s downfall. But is that really what the story says? In this class, we’ll explore how interpretations of Eve have shaped the way women have been understood and treated —and how reading the story from different perspectives can reveal an Eve we've never been taught to see. Along the way, we’ll discover that the harm caused by this story wasn’t inevitable but came from choices people have made about how to interpret it.

This class includes:

  • One-night live class

  • Live Q+A session

  • Link to class recording

  • Downloadable class slides

Cost: PAY WHAT YOU CAN

Topics we’ll cover:

  • How centuries of interpretation turned Eve into a symbol of deception, blame, and untrustworthiness

  • How that reading got baked into how women, especially women's judgment and credibility, are treated to this day

  • Where the "fall" narrative actually comes from and how much of it is theological tradition layered on top of scripture

  • What changes when we approach the story through other lenses — including feminist, womanist, and queer readings — and the Eve who emerges when we stop assuming she needs to be the villain

  • Reframing Eve’s curiosity and desire for knowledge as courage rather than failure

  • Naming the harm honestly, then asking what it looks like to free Eve — and what that frees up for the rest of us
